Jordan MacWilliams has been a police officer for 17 years. He currently works for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as an assaulter on the Emergency Response Team, the federal tactical unit for Canada. Jordan’s current role is as a supervisor in the ERT training section. Jordan has experience as an assaulter, sniper, and team leader over approximately 1000 tactical operations. Jordan has been personally involved in numerous hostage rescue operations and multiple police involved shootings.

Starlight Casino Hostage Taking: In November 2012, while working as a municipal police officer on a regional tactical team, Jordan was called to a local casino where a staff member was held hostage by her ex-boyfriend. Jordan was part of the immediate action team which rescued the hostage from the gunman transitioning the incident to an open-air barricade. After a number of hours, Jordan shot and killed the suspect. In the subsequent police oversight investigation, Jordan was charged with murder. Jordan will speak about this incident, and his journey back to work after eventually being exonerated.

March 29th Hostage Taking: In March of 2019, Jordan was an entry team member during a deliberate action to attempt a hostage rescue. During this hostage rescue attempt, both the armed suspect and his hostage were killed, with the investigation revealing police gunfire was responsible for both. Jordan will speak to the rescue attempt, lessons learned, and what his team has learned and implemented from this incident since.
